RESET versus MyFitnessPal

A classic calorie counter with a large food database.

MyFitnessPal is a general-purpose calorie tracker. RESET is a personal nutrition system from a creator: instead of bare counting, we guide you toward a result through programs, transparent rule-based advice and support without pressure.

When the other app is the better choice

If what you want is the largest possible food database and nothing else, MyFitnessPal is hard to beat: years of user-submitted entries mean the obscure supermarket item you are holding is probably already in there. If you already know your targets, already have the habit, and simply need somewhere to record numbers, a general-purpose tracker does that job and RESET would be adding structure you have not asked for.

When RESET is the better choice

If you have counted before and stopped, the missing piece was probably not the database. RESET starts from a plan built for your goal rather than an empty diary, gives you a programme to follow week by week, and explains every recommendation it makes. Logging matters here, but it is the input to something — not the whole product.

The difference that actually matters

A calorie counter is a measuring instrument: it tells you accurately what you did, and what you do about that is your problem. That is a legitimate design, and for people who already know what to do it is the right one. RESET is built for the far more common case where the number is not the hard part. The plan comes first, the programme sequences the change, and the recommendations arrive with a stated reason — you can always see why you are being shown something, which is why the engine is rule-based rather than a model whose output nobody can explain. The database matters, but it is scaffolding: a huge catalogue does not tell you what to do on the day everything goes sideways.

What RESET deliberately does not do

RESET is mobile-only: there is no web app to log from at a desk, and that is a decision rather than a gap — the moment you need it is standing in a kitchen, not sitting at a laptop. There is no social feed, no likes and no public rankings: the content is a knowledge feed you can save and share, and your progress is private by default and shared with nobody unless you choose a friend yourself. We do not diagnose, treat or promise a result — RESET is a wellness service, not a medical device, and anything that belongs to a doctor is sent to a doctor. And the AI features are optional extras: every core part of the app — logging, the plan, programmes, recommendations, progress — works with them switched off entirely.

Questions people actually ask

Is the food database as large?

No, and we are not going to claim otherwise. Ours is built from verified sources with UK and Ukrainian products added deliberately, plus barcode scanning, your own dishes and templates for the meals you repeat. It is smaller and cleaner. If sheer catalogue size is your deciding factor, choose on that.

Can I move my history across?

Not automatically. In practice this matters less than it sounds: the plan is built from where you are now, not from a year of past entries, and the first week reads the same either way.

Do I have to log everything?

No. Logging is one of six things RESET does, and a day with nothing recorded is simply a day without notes — the app does not scold you for it, mark it red, or break a streak over it.

Is there a web version?

No. MyFitnessPal has one and that is a real advantage if you log at a desk. RESET is mobile-only on purpose; this site is for reading, not for logging.

Does it need the AI features to be useful?

No, and this is enforced in the architecture rather than promised in marketing: every core flow works with the AI switched off. Photo recognition and the coach are conveniences, and anything they produce is shown to you for confirmation before it is saved.

Why people choose RESET

Personal programs from creators, transparent rule-based advice that explains the “why”, and a tone with no pressure. We deliver the result, not a feature list.

Everything above describes each product’s public positioning at the time of writing, and deliberately avoids prices and feature lists, which change. Check the other app’s own site before deciding — we would rather you chose correctly than chose us.
