Vanilla milk pudding with berries

Pour off a glass of cold milk and stir the starch and egg yolks into it until smooth and lump-free. Bring the remaining milk to almost a boil in a saucepan with the sugar and vanilla sugar, stirring, for 5–6 min. Pour the starch mixture into the hot milk in a thin stream, whisking continuously. Cook over low heat, continuing to stir, until the pudding thickens and the first bubbles appear, 2–3 min. Remove from the heat, stir in the butter, and pour into serving dishes. Cover with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Before serving, arrange the berries on top.
